      Case:
currently when adding a music video, some people argue that music videos are stand alone recordings, not releases. however, a music video can have its own caracteristics, such as a thumbnail art (which can be a unique piece of art by which music can be recognized), but also it's own release date, and additions such as subtitles. In some cases the sound itself is also different due to clapping or cheering or video intermezzo's.
Note also that in a modern world, sometimes the first time you hear a piece of music is when you are over at a friends place, their tv is streaming music, and the first picture you get with that piece of music is the thumbnail of the youtube video. This isn't how it always goes, but something can be said for the significance of that piece of art that is the thumbnail. I believe there is a case for such thing to be included.

      Issue:

There is no obvious consense on best practise leading to disagreements and edits such as here https://musicbrainz.org/edit/109016731 and here: https://musicbrainz.org/edit/109589532

      Proposal:

Change the styleguide and practise and start aknoledging music videos as releases, with their own date and release art, their own copyright (text under the video) and other caracteristics of releases.

      MEANWHILE:

      The style leader commented (https://community.metabrainz.org/t/clarifying-release-in-a-streaming-world/1311/2?u=stargaz3r)
at least for normal official music videos I’d not want them entered as releases until we have a better way to show them in the artist discographies

I propose to revise that stance. Deleting releases will destroy data (uploads of thumbnails etc.) before we reach a better solution in the future. The stance has always been to avoid destructive actions. I propose as a meantime solution we do allow adding as a release, and make use of "video" on the recording to identify these releases in the future.

Marking recordings as video can be made easier for editors if on the creation of a new release, there is a checkbox "the new recording is a video". Because currently the new recording is auto created, and one has to remember to manually edit the recording to check the video checkbox and even then wait 7 days for that edit to get auto accepted.
