This task (or perhaps a sub task) should also include the interaction with the mailing list to subscribe new auto editors. The script admin/SubscribeAutomodsToList needs to be ported to NGS in other words.

Please take a look a the script and update the estimate as needed.

Is there any chance that that same subscription mechanism could also allow nominees to be given list-posting rights, with those rights revoked should the nomination fail? This is something that seems to come up with at least every other nominee.

That's out of the scope for this task, please make a new enhancement ticket for that.

The lack of any way to view top editors makes it harder to find candidates to nominate for auto-editor. As a result, auto-editor nominations have dropped off (even more) since NGS launch this year.

Ideally, there would be an auto-nomination process that would nominate candidates based purely on editing statistics (and prior nomination status) - but that is another ticket.

Election support is necessary before we can have an auto-nomination script.
