e.g. http://beta.musicbrainz.org/recording/588153d7-7737-41f5-bed7-6f59d31cdb32/edits – the original creation of the recording isn't visible, because http://beta.musicbrainz.org/edit/18217918 and http://beta.musicbrainz.org/edit/18217920 don't appear in its history. This is especially problematic in cases like http://beta.musicbrainz.org/recording/40bf6c05-2f8b-4b04-9586-b35e625d6f44/edits (the result of MBS-5035 ), where this then means nothing at all can be figured out about the recording.

Presumably these edits simply need to add their affected recordings in related_entities.

Hm, well. Turns out there aren't recording IDs to link this to until it gets applied, at present, when the add medium edits create new recordings. I have a patch so that every add medium edit after the first will appear, but I'm still seeing if I can find a way to link the first edit too.
