I agree with 3) and with separating compilations, and IMO that wouldn't really need any other changes. But we'll soon see what people think. The temporary solution will be 2) I think, but I really don't like that for the long term. I don't think we need to separate Live albums from other albums. Live bootlegs certainly, but not all live albums. Ideally, I'd like the following: 1) Drop down arrows for each release type. It's annoying to have to scroll through sometimes several pages to get to the section I want. 2) Customisable display. I'd like to be able to toggle on/off: Display: a) Official releases Group by: c) Primary type I think by toggling those four options you could achieve any view you could want. There is a slight problem with a) and b) as AFIK RGs do not have a status. This could be implemented. RGs would be official providing they contained at least one official release, otherwise they would be bootleg. Registered users could save their settings. A system of tabs could also work well - one set of tabs for the primary type, then below it, a second set of tabs for the secondary type. Tabs which would show no releases would be hidden, ideally. But filtering would work just as well. I particularly like the idea of toggling official and unofficial releases. Perhaps we could also have an option to hide releases based on date? Tabs could work, might be easier to implement. Ultimately, I like the idea of filters as they would allow users to create a customised view. A smart filter that could filter according to metadata such as date, label etc. would be great, but I imagine more complex. |

This needs addressing fast. Some discographies are near unusable at the moment, with 100s of live shows and compilations listed as 'albums'.
At the very least, we need some sort of separation of plain albums from album+live and album+comp. Bringing back the old 'Live' and 'Compilation' sections would be fine, at least for now.
A few a side points:
1) Perhaps 'Studio' as a secondary type was something that should have been included.
2) Separating each primary+secondary combination could be nice, e.g. albums, live albums, live eps.
3) Official and unofficial parts of the discography should be kept separate
