In order to use google custom search for ~~MBS-1874~~, we need to verify ownership of musicbrainz.org.

This can be done by:

making google314069662f3afe7e.html available at musicbrainz.org/google314069662f3afe7e.html
adding a meta tag to the home page
linking to our google analytics sccount
a DNS record addition

Out of the four, the first two seem the most practical.

I'm going to do the first option.

The DNS option requires that we create a TXT record.

Linking to a google analytics account requires that we embed their JS tracking script. This gives us the added feature of being able to take a look at the statistic reports it generates.

Which option do we go with?

I'd prefer the DNS option for having least impact on the code base. We've had Google analytics before though I think, so I'm not entirely against that.

This was brought up in today's dev chat and it seems that when we had google analytics in place earlier, users complained about it slowing the site down.

Thanks to ~~MBH-224~~, our domains have been verified using DNS, so google analytics isn't a requirement for ~~MBS-1874~~ any more and this sub-task can be closed.

I've opened a new feature ticket (~~MBS-4576~~) specifically for adding analytics support.

I should probably have repurposed this ticket. Too late :/
