Issue with removing track artist when importing from freedb

Created: 16/Jun/11 12:04 AM   Updated: 31/Jul/13 12:42 AM
Component/s: Release editor, User interface

 Description  « Hide

When you import a release from free db, then delete the artist from all individual tracks in advanced track view and uncheck the "artist" column, it should default to the album artist. However, when you click on "next", it does not save this and reverts back to the freedb artist on each track.

This also happens when you try to modify the artist in the manual "raw" edit view.

Confirmed that this is still a problem.

The current behaviour now is to display an error that an artist is required on all tracks. This could even be the correct behaviour. I'm marking this decision required to determine:

  • Is the current behavior correct?
  • If not, where should the correction happen? Should the server fill it in, or should it be filled in by JavaScript?
