"Keep me logged in" does not keep me logged in

 Description  « Hide

Not sure if there's another ticket logged somewhere (I really did look for it!) but I'm only managing to stay logged in for maybe 12 hours of inactivity as far as I can tell (and not visiting ngs.musicbrainz.org in the intervening period, so not due to that).

Unless something like hotfix deployments is causing server-side caches to be cleared or something? Anyone else experiencing this?

Yes, it's happening also to me.

Bill Purosky added a comment - 22/May/11 11:06 PM

It's happening to me, but it's more like 4-6 hours. I'm using FFX 4.0.1.

Also to me on Safari 5 Mac. I'm not sure if its expiring with the session or time but when I access musicbrainz each day I have to login again.

voiceinsideyou added a comment - 23/May/11 12:27 AM

It definitely seems longer than the raw session time since the cookie for that is only two hours; but not really sure.

Lukáš Lalinský added a comment - 23/May/11 04:49 AM

Given that sessions are now stored in memcached, I wonder if they are just not being deleted.

I observe the same problem. After few hours of inactivity (approx. 5) I am not logged in anymore. I use Firefox 4.0.1 on Windows Vista Business, SP2, 32 bit.

Same here.
Google Chrome 11, WinXP SP3 and Vista SP2.
After several hours of inactivity it logs me out (with "Keep me logged in" checked).

Lotheric added a comment - 23/May/11 03:31 PM

Happens to me as well (with Google Chrome 13.0.767.1 dev-m)

Bill Purosky added a comment - 23/May/11 06:28 PM

I use IE 8 at work (not by choice) and it kept me logged in over the weekend.

Frederik "Freso" S. Olesen added a comment - 29/May/11 06:10 PM

I'm logged out in less than 5 hours (2, perhaps) of inactivity, with "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.17) Gecko/20110503 Gentoo Firefox/3.6.17 Glue/4.5".

Anyone who hasn't already might want to try deleting their musicbrainz.org cookies. Chrome seems to still be a problem, but it's made the problem go away for some people using Firefox at least.

Didier Boudon added a comment - 31/May/11 08:33 AM

I deleted the MB cookies yesterday and I do not have been logged out yet (Firefox 4.01). Seems to be a good way to fix the bug.

Václav Brožík added a comment - 31/May/11 09:47 PM

I deleted cookies named "remember_login" for musicbrainz.org. There were two such cookies! Now I am still logged in more than 10 hours later. I am using Firefox 4.0.1. Thanks for the tip!

Calvin Walton added a comment - 01/Jun/11 08:44 PM

I noticed that (prior to clearing my cookies) I had two "remember_login" cookies as well. The difference was that one was for ".musicbrainz.org" - the other was "musicbrainz.org" (note the leading dot). After clearing the cookies and logging back in, I now only have the "musicbrainz.org" cookie.
Perhaps this extra cookie had something to do with it?

Atedos added a comment - 01/Jun/11 11:59 PM

I've deleted cookies for Google Chrome 11 and now it seems to keep me logged in for 12 or more hours.
I guess that was the problem.

Oliver Charles added a comment - 03/Jun/11 11:07 AM

Everyone I've spoken to has mentioned that clearing cookies has solved this problem. I've also added some code that deletes the cookie, if the server determines it can't use it to automatically login. Do you think this is enough to close the ticket now, Rob?

Robert Kaye added a comment - 03/Jun/11 06:22 PM

I've closed it for now. If the warning messages in the error log keep appearing, I'll re-open this bug to take care of those.
